What does it mean to be in therapy?
Being "in therapy" means that you are meeting regularly (usually weekly or biweekly) with a licensed therapist to talk about what's happening in your life. Some days you might have an urgent issue you want to make sense of, some days you might choose to address your goals for the future. It's okay to ask for whatever you want the session to focus on.
You might not know what you want to talk about. You might think that there's no point in therapy if you don't know what you need and are feeling hopeless about the possibility of change.
My job is to help you with all of this. I sometimes function like a coach, encouraging you to challenge yourself and helping you identify habits that aren't serving you. Other times I'm more like a wilderness trail guide, teaching you skills and showing you how certain situations can be navigated.
Beyond all that, I'm here to listen, to support, and to be on your side. This is what it means to be in therapy with me.
